About Hikari Aikido Dubai
who we are
- Hikari Aikido Dubai teachs a modern Aikido, which is based on a well thought-out concept and offers you numerous development opportunities. For us, an atmosphere based on traditional martial arts and a modern teaching style, in which all movements are explained in detail, belong together.
- We teach Aikido as a dynamic martial art and movement art that presents you with appropriate physical challenges. Everyone is encouraged individually and can thus make appropriate progress for themselves.
- We move in a national and international network and orient ourselves to one of the most renowned Aikido teachers worldwide: Christian Tissier Shihan, 8th Dan Aikikai.
- We ensure the quality of our teaching through constant further training at seminars. Continually developing as a teacher is particularly important to us.
- Our teaching concept allows you, as a beginner, to join ongoing classes at any time, as basic knowledge is repeated regularly. You will be introduced to Aikido “step by step” and you can always practice with someone who already knows what it is about, since we do not offer pure beginner courses.

- Beginners and advanced practice together. The lessons are always mixed, men and women. This allows beginners to learn quickly and prevents movement routines for advanced users. The advanced students take on responsibility for the beginners and thus for the entire school.
- At times, the group will be split up in class based on ability levels. In this way, beginners can repeat and deepen the basic techniques they have already learned at their own pace. Advanced users can learn more demanding movements.
- We are free to choose the frequency with which you come to class and the speed at which you practice. So it is possible to start Aikido at any age. Physical strength hardly plays a role, which is why Aikido is equally suitable for women and men.

Doshu
Aikido was developed over his lifetime by founder Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). Upon his death in 1969, his son Kisshomaru Ueshiba (1921-1999), became the lineage holder, or, and was principally responsible for the dissemination and practice of aikido we know today. The Founder’s grandson, Moriteru Ueshiba (1951-), is the third Doshu, and the current director of the Aikikai Foundation and Hombu Dojo. Mitsuteru Ueshiba also known as “Waka Sensei” is the current successor.
Hombu Dojo
The Aikido Foundation (http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/) runs and operates Hombu Dojo, also known as the Aikido World Headquarters.
The original dojo, designated the Kobukan, was built in 1931 at the current site in Wakamatsu-cho, Tokyo. Thereafter followed the heyday of the dojo, and it was nicknamed “hell dojo.” During the war, O Sensei largely receded to Iwama, in the Ibaragi Prefecture, where the Aiki Shrine was built. In the aftermath of the war, the dojo was utilized as a shelter for homeless families, until 1948 when the government reallowed the establishment of the Aikikai. The dojo was renamed the Ueshiba Dojo and World Headquarters of Aikido. In 1954, the dojo was officially titled Aikikai Foundation: the Hombu Dojo of Aikido. The current building of concrete was constructed in 1967, replacing the prior 3-story wooden structure. The fourth and fifth floors were added in 1973 as part of a remodernization.
